The main characters are Liesel Memiger and the Narrator, which still remains nameless.
The minor characters are Rosa and Hans Hubermann, Liesel's brother, and Liesel's mother.
The minor characters are clearly affecting Liesel's life, but the Narrator does not seem to affect or be affected by the minor characters. Rosa and Hans Hubermann are Liesel's foster parents. Rosa is pretty harsh on her, but Hans is kind and almost loving like a real father would be to Liesel. Liesel's mom loved Liesel, but because of her lack of ability to get food for Liesel and her dead brother, she is the reason Liesel is in foster care.
I do not disagree with any decisions that have been made so far in the story. Mrs. Memiger's decision to put her kids in foster care is open for speculation, but in the end, they would have starved or died in some other way had they stayed with her. I am not happy that Liesel's brother died, but that was no one's decision. Mrs. Memiger was asleep. Even if she were awake, there is not much she could have done to save him.
This story changes my thinking only slightly. The Narrator has a little bit of an outside-the-box way of thinking, which I have used a little bit. But overall, I have not gained any tremendous new theories or insight on life.
March 6, through p35
Liesel's friends (except Rudy) are minor characters. Also, Hans Junior and Trudy are minor characters.
Rudy and Hans are now Main Characters.
Liesel's friends play soccer in the street with her. Liesel is slowly turning into Rudy's girlfriend, and Hans has been helping Liesel learn to read. Hans Jr. and Trudy come to visit the Hubermanns occasionally.
I disagree with Mama's decision to abuse Liesel repeatedly. There is no reason for anyone to be treated that poorly.
It was interesting to hear Rudy's father attempt to explain the Nazi situation to him in terms that Rudy would understand. I think it would have been interesting to be either of those characters because they did not know what to think. If they didn't know what to think, it must have been hard for the rest of the world to know what to think. Yeah...how about that? Great insight!
